Donation Ceremony at the Mié-N’Gou Centre – 28 02 2020

On Friday, February 28, 2020, the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for Peace Research (FHB Foundation), headed by its Secretary General, Professor Jean-Noël LOUCOU, handed over 2 million CFA francs to the Mié-N’Gou Centre for Functional Rehabilitation in Yamoussoukro, thanks to the financial support of the National Lottery of Côte d’Ivoire (LONACI). This grant will enable the center, established by President Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 1978, to carry out the most urgent rehabilitation work on its buildings. This social action aims to perpetuate the work of the Apostle of Peace.

In her welcome address, Sister Joséphine AGNÈS, on behalf of the Mié-N’Gou Centre, thanked LONACI and the FHB Foundation for the special attention they have given to “their house” run by the Congregation of Our Lady of Peace since 2000. Also, she did not fail to make the history of this center which was planned since its creation to accommodate the most disadvantaged populations, namely blind people, beggars and the disabled in the city of Yamoussoukro in charge of the “supporter of dialogue”. She said that between 2002 and 2007, at the height of the military-political crisis in Côte d’Ivoire, the centre received nearly 1,000 displaced persons from various parts of the country, thus exceeding its actual capacity of 250 places. She went on to say that since 2007, people suffering from strokes, accidents, motor and physical disabilities and children with cerebral palsy (CP) have been received by the volunteer staff. She concluded her remarks by presenting the problems that the centre faces, the most important of which are the dilapidated buildings as a whole.

Taking the floor, Professor LOUCOU recalled that it was important for the institution he directs to support a work founded by the “Apostle of Peace” by making representations to public and private authorities. He wished to congratulate all the staff of the Mié-N’Gou Centre for the work it carries out on a daily basis. For him, this social action contributes to perpetuating the work of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny which is one of the primary missions of the FHB Foundation.

After the speeches and the family photo, Sister AGNÈS led a guided tour of all the buildings to allow the FHB Foundation delegation to be more immersed in the difficult conditions in which the centre operates.
