In five (5) minutes, each witness must give a precise account of the various facets of Félix Houphouët-Boigny’s personality (politician, man of peace, humanist, man of culture, etc.), his struggle (for independence, development, peace). The list is not exhaustive.
Target audience
The symposium’s target audience is Ivorian and foreign academics (teachers, researchers, doctoral students), politicians, young leaders, economists, NGOs, civil society, and witnesses to the work of Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
Symposium objectives
The objectives of the symposium are as follows:
General objective
Promote a scientific approach and critical reflection on Houphouétisme
Specific objectives
- Explain the foundations of Houphouétisme and its relevance today
- Outline the building of a republican, democratic and social state
- Analyze the choice of economic liberalism as a means of developing Côte d’Ivoire
- Define the concept of peace and the role played by Houphouët-Boigny in conflict resolution and the quest for world peace
- Explain the major options for education, culture and development in Côte d’Ivoire
- Gather testimonials on Houphouët-Boigny and his work
Methodology
The colloquium will take the form of panel discussions, presentations (plenary sessions followed by discussions) and workshops on the colloquium themes.
Duration
The symposium will last three (3) days, i.e. from Monday October 16 to Wednesday October 18, 2023.
Venue: Fondation Félix Houphouët-Boigny pour la recherche de la paix in Yamoussoukro (Republic of Côte d’Ivoire).
