I have the latest firmware btw, it shipped with 1.01. What is curious is that when I open Synapse, without even touching the settings, and on all lod settings (smart tracking with 1-3mm, asymmetric cutoff on or off, or manual calibration), the tracking suddenly fixes itself and is smooth as butter. I don't like running Synapse because of the number of processes/services it keeps in the background, with non-negligible memory consumption.

You don't need Synapse to be running to stop rainbow mode, at least with the Viper Ultimate and dock. :( I'll update the post to include that. I created a post yesterday asking for help with an issue I believed to be with Synapse not persisting lod settings to the Viper Ultimate when Synapse was closed.
You can also connect to Razer Synapse and place your Razer Viper Ultimate on the charging dock to view the mouse’s current battery status.

EDIT:For anyone who comes across this via a search in future, I managed to fix this problem. I would like to remove synapse, but leave installed and open because I don't want my mouse and keyboard to go into rainbow mode. Having problems with your Razer peripherals?

I also have the Viper Ultimate and MP510 and I don't have this issue.

I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the fact that I used a Qck+ previously, maybe the mouse calibrated itself for that mouse pad (the Viper Ultimate claims to have a “smart tracking” feature that adjusts lod automatically). It saves the brightness but not the colors so my rgb is off by creating a custom 0,0,0 color and I have brightness at 10 so when I put it on the charger it will show it's charge. When I close Synapse, it stays smooth - until I turn the mouse off and on again, or it sleeps and wakes up.
How do I swap between DPI sensitivities of the Razer Viper Ultimate?
I thought I'd fixed it through a combination of resetting the mouse and reinstalling Synapse, but that doesn't seem to be the case as it's broken again and I found out exactly how to reproduce the issue. Razer's Viper Ultimate untethers and upgrades one of the best gaming mice a competitive esports player could ask for. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. I think it illustrates the problem well, showing how broken the tracking is when the mouse is turned on with Synapse closed. I notice that when this happens synapse doesn't detect the mouse and I have to restart synapse. You can change your DPI with a press of the DPI cycle button at the bottom of the mouse.
The wired Viper is a new superstar in the world of gaming mice, and the Viper Ultimate is basically a perfect wireless implementation of that device. Even with synapse closed and turning the mouse on and off again I cannot replicate this issue. Eventually I just went back to my G Pro Wireless with hyperglides.
