It kind of rambled a bit and that story didn't even really tie to the main story other than to tell how Jar, A definite middle book. someone isn’t ready for Zaknafein to be dead. The gods and the afterlife of the Realms are a well established fact, yet he often treats them as if it is just “faith”. A bit of packing paper and bubble wrap is all that separated me from the coveted prize inside its current containment. While you probably could read Boundless after missing a few Drizzt books, I would suggest at least starting with the first book in this current Drizzt trilogy, Timeless, which helps fill in a few of the gaps. This book was essentially impossible to put down from the moment I started listening to it, as Salvatore starts it off with an action packed prologue that sees a large force of halflings, dwarves and Drizzt face off against the horde of demons that were unleashed in Timeless. Athrogate and Yvonnel, ummm heck yea. Struggling to navigate this transformed new world, Zaknafein realizes that some things have not changed: the threat of demons and the machinations of a drow matron no longer content with her family’s position in the ranks of Houses.
The book can be very slow at places, then accelerate to breakneck speed in other places. Harper Voyager
In Boundless, Salvatore has once again returned to the iconic Forgotten Realms universe to produce another excellent story set around the character of Drizzt Do’Urden. Making exceptional use of two separate timelines, Salvatore tells a compelling and intricate story that combines a desperate battle for survival in the present with adventures in the past. Only his status as one of the greatest warriors—as well as his friendship with the mercenary Jarlaxle—kept him sane. The further I got into the book the more it seemed to jump around from scene to scene. But he finds himself having to trust others as demons invade the dwarven hold Gauntlgrym. While I did read a physically copy of the previous book in the series, Timeless, for Boundless I ended up listening to the audiobook format instead. I've read a bunch of the series but not that one. Salvatore’s rip-roaring sequel to Timeless turns away from politics in favor of battles among the clans of insular, underground-dwelling dark elves called drow. It's filler so he doesn't have to add much to the story line and can get to the word count goal. Forgotten Realms Wiki is a FANDOM Games Community. When you have read more then 30 books of the series, you feel a compulsion to go on.
I am not a huge fan of the jumping between two stories one in the past and one in the present, but I can see towards the end how the stories bleed together.

Finishing the 32nd book in the "Legend of Drizzt" series. Lots of battles, but no real resolution until the plot picks up right at the end to draw it all together...just in time for the next book. “Boundless′s breakneck pace is why fans … will find themselves jumping in and holding on tight for the entire novel.” (Borg.com) About the Author Thirty years ago, R. A. Salvatore created the character of Drizzt Do’Urden, the dark elf who has withstood the test of … Except . Except . Maybe it’s just me, as the gods of the Realms are among my favored aspects of the setting, so I feel strongly about them. So the reader is left bounc. For anyone unfamiliar with the character of Drizzt, this may be hard to pick up from this point. Filled with action, adventure, amazing fantasy elements and an epic conclusion, this was a first-rate read that I greatly enjoyed. Split between time and two worlds, Zaknafein had always been conflicted. Too much time spent on the historical, then a rush to get to a stopping point in current times.
